Lisa Cheney

Born and raised in rural Idaho, Lisa Cheney was drawn to the visual language at a very young age. She received a BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration, which offered her 30+ year career in the marketing industry. Since 2009, she has traveled throughout the North/Southwest teaching drawing, painting, bookmaking and Visual Journaling at numerous art retreats and private studios. Her visual journals have been published in numerous books and magazines. In addition to Visual Journaling and Bookarts, Lisa works in many other mediums including painting (watercolor, acrylic, oils, and encaustic), drawing (graphite, ink, mixed media), and printmaking. For the past 10 years she has applied her love of psychology, therapeutic healing arts, and sacred energetic healing into her personal art as well as workshops for women.

Lisa’s passion for teaching art began when her children were young, and she noticed the absence of a formal art program in their school. For eight years, she eagerly volunteered her time and expertise in the classroom. This experience sparked a deep love for teaching, which she extended to adults. “I love reigniting the artist within adults and nurturing the creative spirit in young people! Few things bring me more joy than hearing a student say, ‘I can’t believe I created this!’ with pride in their voice. Drawing, painting, and visual journaling aren’t just fun hobbies—though they certainly can be—they awaken the soul and give voice to the parts of us longing to be heard. Creativity brings joy to our hearts, enriches our lives, and strengthens all aspects of our minds.”
